About Karen

Karen Shaeffer has been a resident of West Jordan for 27 years. She has great love for this city where she has raised her family and been a community advocate. For years she has been a volunteer as a Cub Master for the Boy Scouts of America, as well as a mom coach for little league sports. She then went on to the Chair Person for the fund raising committee of “Mountain America’s Wild West Jordan Playground,” which raised $350,000. With her devotion and love for this country, she co-founded the “Thank a Soldier Day” which was proclaimed by Governor Huntsman as a observance to thank our armed forces on March 19th every year.

Karen was born in Salt Lake City and raised in Altamont, Utah. After raising three boys as a stay at home mom, she returned to school to earn her Master Degree in Business. She is currently employed at Columbia College of Salt Lake as the Campus Admissions Manager. She has been married to Bart Shaeffer for 27 years, who was awarded the “2009 Citizen of the Year” by the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce. Karen and Bart both own and have operated a successful business for over 20 years. Karen enjoys being with her mother and three grandchildren and being active in her Church.

Karen has served on numerous committees; Vice Chair of the Jordan Area Women in Business, Business Education Partnership Council, Single Mom Foundation, West Jordan Government Affairs, West Jordan Economic Development, and Thank a Soldier Committee. Her service has been recognized, when she was awarded West Jordan Cities “Good Neighbor of the Year 1993.”
